Through Cheshire West Voluntary Action’s (CWVA) successful partnership with Cadent, Cheshire Community Action (CCA) has been given funding to top up grants awarded to community sector organisations.

These grants are being distributed to community sector organisations as part of the Welcoming Spaces initiative, providing somewhere warm for people to go for companionship and support with the cost-of-living challenges.

The funding from CWVA and Cadent boosted a grant CCA had received from the Council, with the Welcoming Spaces initiative supporting more than 1,800 people for at least six months during 2024. 82 per cent of people supported were attending Welcoming Spaces for social reasons.

The social value of CCA’s funding is £5.40 for every £1 invested, with the key measure being a reduction in social isolation for people.

This funding for CCA is part of a wider pot available from CWVA and Cadent that has supported more than 50 different organisations, collectively helping:

  • distribute 336 carbon monoxide alarms
  • hold 1,098 energy saving advice conversations
  • carry out 701 conversations about preventing damp or condensation
  • set up 1,291 conversations about the Priority Services Register
  • 256 individuals access Warm Home discount
  • hand out 182 slow cookers.

The project between CWVA and Cadent, with CCA as a key partner, has now helped lever more than £150,000 of much-needed funding into the community sector.
