News - Honours for members of the voluntary and community sector

A number of Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) members, as well as partners the organisation works closely with, have been recognised in the latest Queen’s Birthday Honours.

• Member recognition – Andrew Bentley, Chief Executive of Storyhouse in Chester, has been awarded an BEM for services to libraries and the arts.
• Member recognition – Francis Ball, Founder of Bridge Community Farms, has been awarded an MBE for services to the community in Ellesmere Port during COVID-19.
• Partner recognition – Susan Taylor, Manager of the Benefit Service at Cheshire West and Chester Council, has been awarded an BEM for services to local government.
• Partner recognition – Graham Witter, Organiser and Founder of Weston Christmas Light Display and Programme Project Manager at Cheshire West Integrated Care Partnership, has been awarded an BEM for services to charitable fundraising and the community in Crewe.

Clare Harrison, Deputy Chief Executive of Cheshire West Voluntary Action, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people we work closely with being recognised for their hard work in the community.

“Our sector has always provided valuable services for communities, but it has arguably been in the spotlight more than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic. The way our members have adapted to continue supporting people has been inspiring.

“Everyone who has received honours is a valued member of their community and has done so much to support others.”
