Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) helped broker a relationship between English Heritage and RAS Limited, providing an opportunity for more than 20 people to take part in an employee volunteering day at Chester Amphitheatre.

As a champion for the community sector in Cheshire West, supporting almost 400 different organisations in the past year, CWVA was approached by RAS, a Chester-based process and technical safety consultancy organisation with 30 years of experience across sectors, including pharmaceuticals, energy, aviation and chemicals.

Looking for an employee volunteering day, CWVA acted as a bridge with English Heritage based on the needs and interests of RAS.

Carolyn Nicholls, Managing Director of RAS, said: “Organisations like English Heritage need volunteers as there are a lot of these amazing and beautiful assets across the country.

“Why not spend a day as a team together and do something really useful, giving back to the local community?”

Gary Ashby, Volunteer, Community and Engagement Manager – West at English Heritage, added: “We rely heavily on volunteers, particularly visitor and maintenance ones, at sites like Chester Amphitheatre.

“We’ve now extended this out to employee volunteering with the help of CWVA, pointing us in the direction of corporate companies that want to do their bit for the community.

“The advice and professional knowhow from CWVA, pointing us in the right direction to these organisations, has been invaluable to the results we’ve seen.

“Not only do these employee volunteering days offer benefits in kind to the community, but there’s also the chance for people to learn about the history at local sites like Chester Amphitheatre.”

Michael Mitchell, Volunteering Development Officer at CWVA, commented: “A lot of companies approach us and are looking to do a volunteering day, but they don’t work with the sector like we do so we can play that connecting role, matching companies with the right community sector organisations where their time will have the greatest impact.

“It can be a lifeline for some of the organisations we support at CWVA.”
