Community projects in Blacon are encouraged to apply for up to £2,000 in funding through Pride in Place Proud of Blacon, part of a UK-wide grant programme investing in neighbourhoods.

Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) is working with the Pride in Place Proud of Blacon Board, as well as Cheshire West and Chester Council, to oversee a grants programme, with £50,000 available in total.

Pride in Blacon Proud of Blacon was one of the areas identified by the Government as most in need of support, and the grants programme will support small, grassroots groups and organisations already building a stronger community, creating a thriving place, and empowering people to take back control.

The grants programme is aimed at grassroots groups and organisations based in or operating in Blacon, Chester, with applicants able to apply for between £200 and £2,000 to continue existing projects, core work or try something new.

Funding can be used to provide services or activities which:

  • help reduce loneliness or isolation
  • improve physical or mental health
  • improve opportunities for local children and adults
  • improve financial wellbeing or resilience
  • strengthen community involvement and local pride
  • improve the local environment and neighbourhood.

Tina Upton, Chair of the Pride in Place Proud of Blacon Board, said: “We’re delighted to be working with CWVA to deliver this grants programme.

“Pride in Place Proud of Blacon is a huge opportunity for us to invest in Blacon, harnessing the passion we all have for the local area.

“Funding those grassroots groups and organisations that make a difference to people in Blacon every day is an important part of our strategy.

“If any groups or organisations have ideas – whether it’s something that’s already working, or an entirely new project – we’d love to hear from you.”
