As part of Cheshire West Voluntary Action’s (CWVA) Volunteer Awards, Amy has been named Young Volunteer of the Year to help recognise all her hard work at Girlguiding and Youth Fed.

Volunteer Awards is a way of celebrating all the fantastic work volunteers do in their communities and winners will be announced over the coming weeks ahead of Christmas, with Young Volunteer of the Year given to someone aged 25 and under.

Amy has been supported by Youth Fed in the past and is now working with the Mental Health team to put together a programme aimed at autistic young people.

She has researched topics, put together presentations and takes part in the sessions as the lead volunteer, along with acting as the technology expert and offering any support needed.

Amy has also volunteered for Girlguiding and attends every meeting with a smile, encouraging the girls in their activities and helping set up and clear away.

The person who nominated Amy said: “Her mum calls her Amazing Amy and she certainly is as she’s such an inspirational young woman who doesn’t realise it.

“She is autistic and has severe asthma and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, which affects her vocal cords.

“Despite suffering from depression and anxiety during COVID-19, Amy has continued volunteering as she wants to support other young people with disabilities.

“She wants them to realise that autism isn’t a disability – it’s just a different ability.”

Everyone at CWVA would like to congratulate Amy on being named Young Volunteer of the Year.
