The Government recently launched the Civil Society Covenant Framework as the Prime Minister has made it a priority to reset the relationship with the civil society, including the community sector, and build a new partnership that can harness the sector’s full potential.

This is an important development and could shape how the community sector works with the wider public sector in the coming years.

There are four high-level principles for the Civil Society Covenant Framework.

  • Recognition: make sure there’s a strong and independent civil society.
  • Partnership: make sure there’s effective services and policy making and shared learning of best practices.
  • Participation: make sure people and communities can be heard and make a difference.
  • Transparency: make sure the civil society and Government have the information needed to best serve people and communities.

The National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA), one of our umbrella organisations, is hosting a meeting with its members in November and CWVA will be attending to represent the community sector in west Cheshire.

Ahead of this meeting, we’d like to gather the thoughts of CWVA members on the Covenant and the areas we should focus on to build a successful partnership.

We’re running an online discussion from 2pm to 3pm on Monday 11 November so we can capture your feedback and take this to the meeting with NAVCA.

Please note that CWVA is now using a new system – Plinth – for event bookings. When using Plinth for the first time, you’ll need to create an account, which will keep all your future bookings in one place.

You can also engage with a survey being run by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) on the Covenant.

If you have any questions about the Covenant and the response CWVA is working on, please email: ryan.gould@cwva.org.uk.
