A recent survey has been completed to help sample organisations in the community sector across Cheshire and Warrington.

This was supported by Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) and other local infrastructure organisations, such as Warrington Voluntary Action and Cheshire Voluntary Service, that provide support in their respective areas.

Some of the following points have been made in the survey.

  • Funding for the COVID-19 response has been more positive for Cheshire and Warrington charities than what it has typically been across the UK. Some of this is down to good support from infrastructure organisations and having supportive local funders and donors.
  • The response from the sector, how it has adapted and its commitment to meet people’s needs is admirable.
  • The short-term nature of the funding available and the increasing demand shows there could be challenges around sustainability in early 2021.

The community sector makes a significant contribution locally and covers a wide range of diverse activity. Cheshire and Warrington Infrastructure Partnership (CWIP) and Cheshire Community Foundation are working together to support local charitable organisations but, with the increasing need for support (for example, mental health and the economic impact of COVID-19), a joined-up and longer-term approach to funding seems essential and urgent.
