Volunteers play an invaluable role at Here and Now, bringing older people together in a friendly and relaxed environment to reduce social isolation.

Here and Now was formed in 2015 and has been making a real difference to older people ever since, offering a wide range of groups and activities for people to engage with.

Karen, Director at Here and Now, said: “The feedback we get from people who attend the groups is that we offer such a valuable service.

“There aren’t many services like Here and Now running in Chester and we have varied referrals, not just from Blacon residents, but within Chester.

“It can help people be less isolated and move on to other services, giving them confidence.”

June, one of the volunteers at Here and Now, added: “Not only do I give to people, but they give back to me as well so it’s very rewarding for both of us.

“They’ve got company, which is the most important thing because a lot of our members are on their own and might not have relatives living close by.

“This is their lifeline really and we sit and talk to them if they’re having a bad day.”

Cheshire West Voluntary Action’s volunteering platform can be used by community sector organisations to advertise their volunteering opportunities.
