Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) has helped Cheshire and Merseyside Women and Children’s Services Partnership distribute £20,000 to charities and community groups providing invaluable mental health support.

Grants have ranged from £1,000 to £5,000 and focused on local activity to support women and their families who are expecting a child or have recently given birth, including those who may have been affected by social isolation because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding aims to develop and deliver a range of projects that support the ambitions and priorities of the Improving Partnership in Cheshire and Merseyside.

CWVA and other community and voluntary service (CVS) organisations across Cheshire and Merseyside have been given funds to distribute to members in their different areas.

Motherwell CIC, Holy Trinity Blacon, Chester Pride, Koala North West, Chapter Mental Health and Milestone Mums have all been supported in west Cheshire, with many of them already starting their projects and others beginning soon.

Joanne Stanton, Senior Development Officer at CWVA, said: “We manage many different funding pots on behalf of local funders in west Cheshire.

“Last year, we worked with local funders to distribute a total of £368,000 into the community sector.

“Mental health is such an important subject and has been in the spotlight more than ever before during the pandemic so it’s fantastic to be able to provide grants to our members delivering services in this area.

“Our members have constantly had to adapt during the pandemic and extra funding pots like this will go a long way to supporting them.”

Monday 3 to Sunday 9 May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, encouraging people to talk about mental health problems during and after pregnancy.
